A 45-year-old Westboro, Mass. man slipped off the end of the dock at 20 Water Street early Saturday morning, his friend reported to the fire district at 1:39 a.m. East Greenwich firefighters took him out at 1:45 a.m., once they spotted him at the opposite side of the dock from where he had fallen, according to a fire district report. He had been under water too long. The firemen did CPR, and transported him to Kent Memorial Hospital at 2:05 a.m., but he was pronounced dead at 2:35 a.m. “There was nothing we could do about this,” said Deputy Fire Chief Peter Hendricken. The man, Jerald St. Laurent, had been drinking and dining with friends at Twenty Water Street and was heading for a friend’s boat on slip 11 to stay the night, according to police. But he went instead for the stern of “For Pete’s Sake” on slip 23, and fell into the water, the police department and fire district reported. |
